Coronavirus & Tyranny: A Perspective

By |2020-03-29T20:47:31-05:00March 27th, 2020|Uncategorized|

So we are a week or two into the current apocalyptic frenzy and the pre-tribulational Rapture index (a real thing) is spiking off the charts. We somehow made it through the blood moons unscathed, but here we are facing another unique moment in world history. The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has apprehended our attention and what we must do is be as judicious and shrewd as possible. This can be rather difficult given our penchant for memes: memery is clearly at its all-time high (a curve that will most certainly not be flattened). Another problem lies in the fact that there’s [...]

New Book Release: Have Yourself An Eschatological Christmas

By |2019-12-24T12:03:59-05:00December 24th, 2019|Blog|

I'm excited to announce the release of my latest book, 'Have Yourself An Eschatological Christmas: Christmas Hope in an Age of Pessimism'! From the description: 'Have Yourself an Eschatological Christmas' is a short book on a big topic. The advent of Christ was, quite literally, a history changing moment when the Triune God decided to act. The Word becoming flesh changed the game, and it changes the rest of history as we move towards the glorious promise of resurrection life. In this book, Dr. Jason Garwood explores the contours and themes of eschatology and how the coming of Christ plays [...]

Hypocrisy In War

By |2019-11-13T13:42:49-05:00November 7th, 2019|Blog|

War will never be given the adjective “beautiful” because the very nature of war is one of death and destruction. You won’t find a commander describing the advancement of his army towards the enemy as being the same thing as watching a sunset over the watery horizon. The reason, of course, is because war is the breakdown of the image of God in man, and this is far from alluring. When peace is side-stepped, war is espoused, and when war comes about no one is thinking about flowers and art. War has its bruises and scars, and we better make [...]

The Greatness of the Great Commission and Our Self-Induced Incompetence Through the Means of Ecclesiastical Authoritarianism

By |2019-09-03T15:43:06-05:00September 3rd, 2019|Blog|

This message was given on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Christian Word Center International in Lusaka, Zambia. I have come to encourage you, no doubt, but I have also come to challenge you. Gold is not purified without some level of heat, and your sanctification isn’t going to happen without a little bit of pressure. We tend to learn the most in the furnace of affliction, so I intend on placing you all in the fiery furnace of examination for just a little while in order to help all of us grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [...]

High Octane Postmillennialism

By |2019-05-15T12:15:42-05:00May 15th, 2019|Blog|

Or, knocking off the temptation to want to look at the world around us, throw our hands in the air, and whine about it all.  The postmillennial eschatology, being the victorious expression of our covenant Lord in history, gives us not just a foretaste of the consummation of history, but a paradigm through which we understand victory itself. If we adopt the humanist version of history, we find that we’re progressing somewhere, but no one knows where this is, and the car has no brakes. If we adopt the premillennial view, the Church is going to give it the old [...]

The Greatest Threat to the Church

By |2019-04-23T14:29:31-05:00April 23rd, 2019|Blog|

It's high time we deal with this. The greatest threat to the Church in America isn’t a political candidate for president, AOC, or even immigrants coming over the “border.” It's not Russia or climate control, or radical Islam. The greatest threat is, very simply, statism. But even that’s not the root, though we’re getting closer. The reason full-blown, fully metastasized Statism is the greatest threat is tied to the fact that it exists as a rival religion--a rival social order for all of life--because the Church has allowed its tentacles to grow and we've even perpetuated and participated in its growth. It's [...]

Finished: The Meaning of Good Friday

By |2019-04-19T10:34:37-05:00April 19th, 2019|Blog|

Hanging on the cross, Jesus said one final word: tetelestai. This word, translated as "It is finished," is oftentimes the subject of curious speculation. What was finished? What is He talking about? His life: was that finished? The work of redemption: was that complete? Just what does John 19:30 mean? Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. (Jn. 19:30) Contrary to said speculations, I am convinced that what Jesus is getting at has everything to do with the action before the statement. Notice the verse above: Jesus had received [...]

Why you shouldn’t support the heartbeat bill.

By |2018-12-29T07:36:54-05:00December 29th, 2018|Blog|

There's been a lot of chatter in Christian circles again about what is known as a "heartbeat bill," and the prattling continues because Republican Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, vetoed the legislation and then just a couple of days ago, the legislature failed to override it. Predictably, conservatives are out of sorts because they really wanted the bill to get passed. The question I want to raise is this: Should we support a heartbeat bill? I mean, after all, at least it's something to stop the slaughter, right? No. You shouldn't support it. Heartbeat bills are immoral, unjust laws. And here's [...]

Ministry Update & Call to Action!

By |2018-09-05T07:59:51-05:00September 5th, 2018|Blog|

So it's been nearly a year since we journeyed to Northern Virginia to plant Cross & Crown Church. We spent the first several months together as a core team prayerfully laying out our vision and plans as to what the future may look like if we take seriously our mission: "All of Christ, for all of life." Our reason for existence is quite simple: to equip men, women, and children to press the crown rights of King Jesus into every area of life. We understand that the goal of the Christian life is not to be locked up inside the four [...]
